Match Report

Clash of the 'Ancients'
Whites: Ken, Ali, Paul, Nick E., Brian, Carl, Mark, Chris.
Yellows: Woody, Harvey, Gary, Ossie, Neill, Laurie, Andy S., Bob.

The first league encounter of the two oldest, available (Mr. Grainey recovering from the first of two knee replacements ops was present in spirit and by all accounts recovering well from the first op.) members of the club saw me winning the toss and as the sides were equal obviously choosing first pick. Despite picking Bob as the centre of a back three and Harvey as the centre midfield they decided to switch positions without consulting their captain. What do I know?

Both started the game extremely well and with me in goal the outfield players proceeded to play a very precise and mostly accurate passing game without threatening the Whites goal in the early stages of the game. It was the Whites though, strong in defense and very pacy on the counter with Ali and Chris working hard and combining well who took the lead with Chris scoring from the edge of the box with a sharply taken 'toe-ender' past a very flat-footed and static goalkeeper (yes, me) Despite the amount of possession the Yellows enjoyed the Whites defense were very efficient and well organised and they very soon increased their lead through Ali with a very smooth finish when one on one with a floundering goalkeeper (yes, once more, me!). The yellows managed to get themselves back in the game with a goal from Bob who was having a great game in centre mid but the Whites regained their two goal advantage with another goal from Ali.

You may have perused the league table recently and glanced askance at the player at the top (yes, me) who, of course, has done nothing to merit being in such a lofty position and owes it entirely to the team-mates he has been fortunate enough to have been chosen to play with; recent games have seen two or three players on the top of their game non more so then Ben who last week inspired his team to a stirring comeback to win 5-3 with Ben scoring four. This week was no different and the star performer was Gary who hunts the ball down like a Jack Russell after a rabbit and chases lost causes throughout the game. Tonight was no different as he scored two goals to bring the Yellows level.

Man of the Match was Gary with special mentions for Bob and Harvey and the great combo down our left - Alan and Andy. Well played Yellows
