The Beginning of the End

LAST 4 WEEKS

Good turnout last Wednesday with 16 players turning up for a game. Good to see a few players returning to the field after long absences too.

As apparent from the league standings, it now remains with a battle between myself and Woodsy for the title. Kinda' like Leicester and Spurs in these last few weeks. And by god, Woodsy is fighting until the very end!

Anyway, back to Wednesday... (which I've tried very hard to forget)

Teams were as follows
Yellows: Dave W, Carl, Bob, Blake, Gary, Richie, Alan, Andy S
Whites: Neil, Dave O, Paul, Mike, Mac, Mark, Nick E, Ali

Game started pretty evenly, both teams creating good chances, with the balance of play switching from end-to-end. 10/15 minutes in and disaster struck and my meltdown began. The FIRST OF TWO goalkeeping errors from myself. Now, I don't claim to be any Joe Hart but I should have done better. A long range shot from Richie was stopped by my hands only to dropped and fumbled into my own net. 1-0. Not long after, another error and our box turned into a pinball machine and hit the post and rebounded of me for my SECOND error of the night and into net. Nick was close to clearing off the line but couldn't quite get there. At the other end of the field Davey was making save after save, really showing me how it should be done. Alas, Mac was able to get us back into the game, 2-1.

I switched with young Nick at this point. unfortunately, I was no better outfield than in goal. Our luck wasn't helping as well; a looping throw-in/cross from the right had Nick thinking it was going wide of the goal. unfortunately, this wasn't the case and the ball sneaked on the inside of the far post. 3-1.

The Yellows scored their fourth after a ball was played from deep to a solitary Richie who was able to flick the ball over an advancing Hackett for his hat-trick. 4-1.

We were able to net another before the buzzer went but only as a consolidating goal. 4-2 FT.

MOM - Toughie - I'm gonna have to say Richie as he did net a hat-trick but Davey Woods was a close 2nd for his goalkeeping efforts and leadership on the field.

On to next week.

Neil.
