Match Report

Written by Andy Eyres
Apologies for the late posting - I was on Holiday (again)

Whites: Andy E, Neil, Dave W, Mike, Ross, Carl, Laurie, Ben, Gary
Yellows: Blake, Richie, Mac, Rod, Phil, Paul, Brian, Dave O, Noel

I had first pick, so having only returned for my first game of the season, I suppose it was a slight advantage handed to me. I decided to put myself in goal for the first 20mins, and give my team instruction from deep.

The yellows strangely enough started off the brighter team, as I had to make two world class saves to keep out Richie and mac from giving the yellows the lead. Their dominance was short lived however, as the whites started to 'turn the screw' with 'midfield general' Carl, ghosting into the box with his trademark late run to put the whites 1-0 up at his second attempt. That seemed to settle us down, and we started to create more chances, with Gary up-front causing problems. The second goal wasn't happening though.

I decided to come out of sticks after 20mins (and a clean sheet again) in a straight swap with Laurie in right mid. In suitably unfamiliar territory on the right, we were soon 2-0 up, as your truly lashed a right foot strike into the top corner. (Don't often catch them so sweet on my standing foot!)

As a little bit of complacency set in, the yellows pulled a goal back through Rod, after we failed to clear our lines from the back. 2-1. However, we were still in control of the game, as the yellows' wayward passing and poor finishing gave us a little breathing space.
We continued to create our own chances too, with Gary also notably failing to find the net in an almost open goal ;)

He soon made amends however, making the game safe at 3-1 with a well taken goal.

Man of the match - a fair few candidates as my team were exactly that! played as a team.

I have to give it to Neil though, for his solid display, but in particular heading away an absolute thunderbolt which nearly took his head off!
