Match Report
Written by Nick BrownOn a perfect late autumn evening 15 showed up to play football in front of a small but knowledgeable crowd.
The captains were selected and having won the toss Nick went for the extra man option.
Due to the late posting of the match report some of the details of the game are a bit hazy. For the first 10 minutes or so the game was pretty even with Nick's team in white failing to take advantage of the numerical superiority. The deadline was broken by Dave Owen with a superb turn and shot from well outside the box which bent it's way past the outstretched left hand of Kenny and into the top corner of the net. Gary, playing in yellow was a constant menace to the white's back three Dave W, Mike and Neal. The equalising goal came from just such an interception by Gary who played the ball off to Paul and it was one-a-piece.
10 minutes later the Nick men moved to a 2-1 advantage as Brian skilfully manoeuvred the ball across the yellow goal line. Once again the lead was not going to last, with worse to follow as Gary intercepted another clearance and slotted home to make it 3-2 for Mac. The whites may have been on the ropes at that point but there was plenty of fight left in them. Chris in particular exemplified this spirit by picking up the ball 15 yards from Kenny's goal, stuck his head down and set a direct course to the goal line and was not going to be denied.
Final result 3-3 with all to play for in the 2nd leg.
