This was a first round Captains Cup game and the last game of the 2016 / 2017 season before we go into the last 4 games of the season where the top 2 in the league pick each week. A quick look at the league table reveals how important points are at this time of the season for those of us who have played well enough to be in contention for the League trophy. Before the game started Dave O was leading the league with 33 points, Ross was second with 28 points, I was third with 27 points and a magnificent points average, and Mike was 4th also with 27 points. Part of my picking strategy was therefore not to pick Ross (an easy option), win the game and hence put myself in second place with 4 games to play. Of course these totals are only because we'd previously played in the dark after the floodlights failed but the result was deemed to stand - a bloody disgrace if you ask me!

P.S. Why have I got such a low monetary value in the league???

Picking went to plan and I was very happy with both the way my team dominated the match and when we took the lead (Paul's magnificent header that I totally missed because I was retrieving the game for the other pitch). Nick's team didn't look like getting a result but with both Dave O and Gary squandering chances there was always a possibility of something bad happening in the final minutes - and it did and it's name is Richie! I was too busy chasing Chris to see exactly what happened, but the way Richie kept apologising after the game leads me to believe the worst. What happened Richie?

So, the game was drawn one all and it's down to penalties between Nick and I next week.
