Match Report

Written by Dave Owen
With the league being able to be decided on the night, interest was at its highest for the whole year and a record number of players having to stand down. Frankly I couldn't keep up with it all so well done to Woody for managing too!

As ten a side games have historically been tight I decided to try and keep it tight at the back and in the middle and hope to nick a goal or two on the break. The game plan was working after about twenty minutes gone as we raced into a two nil lead with good work by Ben down the right and an accurate long throw from Andy providing assists for myself, both goals coming from close range.

On the balance of play most of the ball was being kept in our defensive half with the whites having some good possession but the yellows defending heroically and keeping any threats comfortable at bay. The game eventually settled down to a less frantic pace and neither team was threatening. A long ball into the yellows box unusually caused some confusion and the whites pulled one back with the finish applied by Gary.

Now it was game on and the whites repeated some more of their earlier pressure. It was during one of their attacks came the game changing moment. Andy E brushed into Richie, when he was in possession, and he dropped to the floor in what seemed an innocuous challenge. But after a couple of minutes of trying to play on it was an early shower for Richie (lets hope he can make a recovery over the summer break)

With the numerical advantage with us, and the injury disturbing the flow of the game, it was the yellows who could take the game by the scruff of the neck. Ben scored with a nice finish from the left and Andy E scored (as he has threatened to do all season but never quite been able to execute) with an arrowed effort from range. The whites battled on but when Blake hit a screamer (only slightly better than Andy's) it was enough to clinch the game and title for myself.

A big thanks to everyone for what has been a great season. But a few specific mentions; Ross, for keeping it competitive; Alan, for what will surely be the best average; Woody, for managing the whatsapp; Gary, for doing the website (and missing so many chances); Geoff, for the cup and champagne (cava); and, Pauls nephew in Spain, for the jokes!!

I am sure everyone will agree it has been another great season!

P.s I know this was technically supposed to be Ross' report again but 1) as champion I took it as my prerogative to write one, and 2) as last weeks was basically fake news, I volunteered to do it - I hope this doesn't break any rules!!
