Match Report

Yellows jubilant after win

Written by Ben McKay

First of all apologies for it technically being a little late my laptop wouldn't connect to my internet at home so I'm using my lunch hour to copy it out and send from work , what a life!!

Anyway enough of the shit excuses, and onto the game. After a solid start to the season for myself personally it was time to undo all the early season promise and cement my annual place in the duffers cup. Harvey offered me first pick and so straight away I went for my front 3 forgetting that's a position I'd probably want to playing myself, sorry Chris midfield it is for you. I then went for self preservation tactic and ensured both Paul and Mike were in my ranks to ensure safe passage for myself to next week as I hadn't brought my shin pads. Then I started to get creative , having still not fully recovered from the mental scars of Alan turning me inside out a couple of weeks ago I decide do to save myself the embarrassment again and pick mr Austin also knowing that should any contentious issues arise during the game Alan would be an important aspect of any 'debate' back in the pub. Luckily from what I can remember the game passed without any such incidents...... Then there was final piece of the jigsaw where I cunningly sent Agent Dad behind enemy lines although there must have been a cock up at the briefing as he had a great game and could have scored 2 or 3 had it not been for an inspired performance by doc in goal. As for Harvey's team I think he went for something like a well balanced, organised strong footballing team or something like that.

As for the match (finally) once again it was a great game following what has been a few close games in recent weeks. Harvey's side probably dominated most of the early possession with sylvain zidane looking dangerous every time he was on the ball, Paul however, was looking equally dangerous every time Sylvain had the ball..... my side managed to take the lead halfway through the game thanks to a great ball out to myself from Dave which I managed to square to Gary in front of goal who finished excellently from close range. I think we then managed to go 2-0 up mainly thanks to some superb keeping from Doc and us hitting the yellows on the break after they dominated a lot of the game. As for the details I can't really remember sorry..... but I know it came about from some good work down the right from Chris and Dave.
HAving gone 2-0 up we decided to take our foot off the gas and let the yellows back into the game, Richie andy e and andy h started to dominate the midfield and the resilient whites were beginning to tire somewhat, or atleast I was. This allowed them to hit back with two goals that I can't remember but they were definitely flukes or shit or both or shouldn't have counted for some reason or another.

So anyway back to 2-2 but no need to panic we still looked well organised at the back with mike holding the middle Brian down the right and Alan offering several words of 'encouragement' as always down the left. Paul and carl were picking up every loose ball and every loose leg in the middle of the park allowing gary and chris to press further forward which earnt a corner late on which Mike nodded in brilliantly at the front post 3-2 normal service resumed.....
Having had such a great game my side decided we ought to congratulate each other just before the match ended and we're doing so in the centre circle, who could blame them though what a performance. Seeing this the yellows inexplicably decided to take advantage of our jubilation at such an excellent fifty five minutes of football and put the ball past a helpless doc in goal who had joined in the celebrations just yet. There was a bit of opinion sharing on the matter for a few minutes and the game continued with the score at 3-2 or 3-3 I don't really know, but I was quietly confident that Alan would look after this aspect of the game in the bar afterwards... or if it came down to the vote hopefully Agent Dad could finally remember his briefing.......

Once the game restarted I managed to latch onto a great through ball and rounded a defender with only Laurie to beat from five yards out. I drilled it hard and low but Laurie pulled out an absolutely brilliant save, I should have scored but I think it was a great save rather than a poor miss, plus It would have killed any debate which would have been boring.

So that was pretty much that 60 minutes played and nothing really decided so here I offer the compromise ......

Harvey 2 1/2 v Ben 3 deal?????? ;-)

But whatever the score it was another throughouly enjoyable game and I'm already looking forward to next week.
