15 brave souls arrived on what turned out to be a pleasant evening weather wise. Geoff won the toss and elected to take the extra man, so I had first pick. Having lost the vast majority of my previous picking games I was not expecting much, and had already apologised to my team for my inevitable goal-line fluffs.
Feeling festive I went for a Fir tree shaped 3-2-1 team setup, expecting to be caught behind as we pushed. This worked pretty well for us, with Harvey as the bedrock of the defence, Sylvain and Ali the rolling stones in the centre and Ben the target glass house up front. Yellows dominated possession with some fantastic skills and movement by the whole team, looking very threatening before Ali finally got through with the assistance from Ben about 15 minutes in.
Ali was on fire from then, assisted by some awesome passes from Ben and Sylvain, putting a couple more away. Whites were determined that we wouldn't have it all our own way with Dave O slotting a neat one in the bottom corner for Whites to make it 3-1. We absorbed a lot more pressure, especially tricky when Geoff arrived in the attack, but the defence held and Neil got his own back with a great goal to make it 4-1.
I came out of goal for the last 15 minutes, found myself in a shooting position and blasted it goal-wards. Luckily Ali was standing about 10 ft away from the post to turn the spooned shot into a cross and scored a beautiful header, saving my blushes.
All in all a very satisfactory game for the Yellows, not sure how the Whites felt about it!
MoM is really difficult, but you can't win a game without scoring so it has to go to Ali for his x4.
