Match Report

Written by Laurie Evans
I knew this would be a close contest - my games with Andy always are. I won the toss which in hindsight I would have been better losing with the high numbers present.

It was a shame to see Ken with Mark and Brian have to stand down as we had 23 players for the second week running. Ken would have been my goalie so I decided to try and match his tremendous recent form.

The game started well with the yellows looking the most threatening, particularly Ali who lobbed the ball over me only to see it hit the cross bar and be cleared. We started to pick our game up and gain more possession but much to Paul's frustration,( I remember him shouting "We haven't had a bloody shot yet") we were ineffective in front of goal all credit to the Yellow's defence.

Eventually the deadlock was broken when the ball found it's way out to Mac who finished with a smart left footed strike (after all,he only uses his right to stand on)

The whites started to pick there game up and had a few more half chances, with the long throw out proving to be more effective than the short pass out. The Yellows seldom threatened in the second half except from a good strike from Ali which I just got the sole of my boot to and deflected it onto the post.

As the clock was ticking away and I was starting to think that I might just sneak a result, the yellows won a corner. It was crossed in and BLOODY GEOFF SHEENE ! was there to first head the ball down and react quickly to poke the ball into the roof of the net. I wouldn't mind but he'd had the night off in defence for the previous 58 minutes. Perhaps that's why the old bugger had the energy to score. 1 - 1.

Final score 1 - 1 replay to come with Andy in poll position.

Men of the Match Whites - Bob for me, solid throughout except for their goal
Yellows - Geoff Sheene (although I'm not speaking to him) - Defended resolutely all night and poached the equaliser at the end
