First, a special mention for Tommy Hayhurst who died recently after a battle with cancer. We formed a circle and paid our respects with a minutes silence in the Plus 30 way.He was a giant of a man and liked by all.
This was the first game of the new season and you could sense the anticipation at the kick off. Brian's whites started very smartly and had the upper hand, pushing forward at every opportunity. Harvey made some great saves to keep them out, noticeably one that he tipped on to the bar from Sylvain.
Their pressure paid off and they took the lead through Chris and then doubled their advantage when Sylvain scored.
We fought back with loads of running from Dave O and Gary and a lot less from Richie who'd obviously eaten too much in Hawaii. Eventually we pulled one back through Gary and it was now our turn to apply the pressure.
It looked like it was going to be one of those nights when the ball just won't go in then Gary collected the ball in the centre and unleashed a powerful shot from distance past the unsighted Woodsie.
With about 5 mins to go Gary on the right put a great crossfield ball in to Richie on the left who crossed it first time to Dave O who put the ball in at the far post to put us 3-2 up. This was the best goal of the night.
The game kicked off and the whites gained a corner almost immediately. From the resulting cross, Harvey came out to collect the ball and fell awkwardly. It was awful to hear the anguish in his voice as he feared that he may have injured his ACL again.
The game then finished on a sad note as Harvey was helped off the pitch. In case you read this Harv, very best wishes from all of us in making a speedy recovery. We know how much it means to you.
There were a lot of candidates for MOM but Harvey gets it for me for some great saves that kept us in the game early on.
