With Easter approaching, it is the season for great comebacks! 4-1 down from the first leg looked a stretch. However, this time with the picking advantage my side were quick out of the blocks, passing the ball around with a style that might even have impressed Alan (I did say might). With a combination of poor finishing (I was beginning to think they had given up scoring for Lent) and good goalkeeping by Geoff the scores remained level. Then, with their first meaningful attack, a quick long throw by Richie, a deft glancing header by Dave and the aggregate score went up to 5-1, Duffers Cup beckoning.
I need not have worried, a quick one-two from Andy E and Ali put us back in contention. More missed chances and Alamo style defending by Yellows kept it tight but eventually the goals flowed, Gary and two more from Andy E. Yellows staged a late surge with Geoff going up top and going close to getting the vital extra away goal, but it was not to be. 5-1 to Whites on the night, 6-5 aggregate. Worthy of comment is going back to the first game which was 6 a side and with odds against, my team kept going even when 4-0 down, Andy E grabbing a late goal to get us on the board, a goal which proved decisive in the end, thanks guys.
MoM Andy E, bossed midfield with a hat trick to boot.
