Match Report

Written by Laurie Evans

Another very closely fought game which has been the case pretty much all of the season. Having first pick was always going to be critical and all I could hear in the changing rooms was Richie  saying " Damn that was going to be my next pick". I know exactly what you mean.

The game started with the yellows looking sharper than the whites and Gary and Sylvain kept causing problems for their defence. In the first 5 mins we got a flukey goal as Mark took a speculative shot/pass which hit Chris on the back and looped up into the net.

The yellows kept pushing and it didn't take long before Gary broke through and hit a great left foot shot whilst running away from goal, the ball hitting the far corner of the net.

At this stage the whites were having isolated chances but didn't threaten our goal seriously. Sylvain was a constant threat and a great cross came in from the right and headed home with aplomb. I couldn't quite believe we were 3 nil up so early on. This was followed by a shot rifled home by Neil for our fourth.

The whites were starting to look more threatening  now and some good work on the left found Richie in space who deftly put the ball through our advancing keeper's legs (moi).

The game had one controversial moment when Paul using all his experience gained in stopping players in their tracks in walking football managed to do the same to Richie who was on a dangerous looking run. The ensuing free kick amounted to nothing much to Richie's frustration.

I decided to come out of goal and swap with Ross. With hindsight this was probably not a good move as the whites started pressing more and more. First, a break down the left and a good cross to Dave gave him the simplest of tap ins. It was now 4-2.

The boot was on the other foot now and all the pressure was coming from the whites. That man again,  Dave rose from a corner and with pinpoint accuracy managed to head the ball between my legs to make it 4-3. I wouldn't mind but I carefully positioned myself on the far post to prevent that from happening.

The last ten minutes were very tense as the whites battled for the equaliser but thankfully we just held out.

Another great game that  was very close. Main candidates for MOM are Neil and Mark but I think Neil just edges it because of his telling runs up front and goal.

Unlucky Richie. I'm sure you'll get your own back next week.
