Minimum turnout for our first summer game, captains cup 1st round match.

I started the match in goal, so priority was to defend the goal well for the first part of the game. And we did just that for the first 20 minutes. Laurie and Paul putting in some solid blocks and tackles, Woodsy ensuring any attacks were forced out wide and Blake and Johnnie providing the legs in midfield and up front. 

The whites had the majority of possession in the first half and eventually took the lead through Chris. A shot I should have got to, however a well timed run by Steve across the front of goal blocked my sight of the ball and it sailed in.

Paul volunteered to go in goal next and he did it at the right time. A few minutes later, Richie looked certain to put the Whites two up when Andy E put him through on goal, with just Hackett to beat. Richie tried to dribble the ball around Paul, Hackett got a foot to it, then a hand, then his body, then another hand and kicked it out of play. Quite brilliant keeping from Hackett, left Richie in disbelief.

Shortly after we equalised, or should I say, Steve equalised for us, when Blake cut the ball back across the box and it deflected off Steve’s arm into his own net.

The Whites continued to press and counter and their tactics paid off, with Chris completing a hat-trick and Jay getting one on the scoresheet too.

Finished 4-1.

A contest which was more even than the scoreline suggests. Good moments of play from both teams.
