Match Report

Written by Dave Owen
In an all family affair it was me (Dave) vs Blake and 2 well balanced sides were picked from a full contingent of 20. After some initial confusion about who was on what side the match was soon under way. Starting in the last throws of daylight, with this being the first match since the change to BST, and it being a barmy 15 degrees seemed to affect the pace of the match initially with both teams starting slowly. It was actually quiet forgettable to begin with, so forgettable in fact that I can't remember anything about the first goal!! But no doubt it was a stunner from Laurie and the yellows edged in front.

This did kick start he game into life however with the whites playing some decent stuff and trying to press for an equaliser. And it wasn't long before our pressing reaped its rewards with Chris' endless enthusiasm to chase after lost causes paying dividends as he marginally beat Mac to the ball only a yard from the line to nestle it into the back of the net.

Both teams now took it in turns to look after the ball and dominate possession as the game ebbed and flowed from end to end. It was in the midfield where the game was mostly being played and chances for the rest of the match were hard to come by. The stand out opportunities falling to Mark, who stuck it over the bar from maybe 6 inches out, and Chris, whose header produced a worldie save from Laurie, he having now moved in between the sticks. A couple more late goal line scrambles meant the game could have gone either way but with neither team being able to pounce when required the game finished a stale mate. 1-1 was probably a fair result but not helping any of the main players at the top of the table making a late push for the title!

MOM definitely going to Laurie for his contributions at both ends of the pitch. A goal and a couple of result saving saves having a massive bearing on the outcome of the game.

4 - 2 to Blake over the two legs leaves me as a loser in my first head to head.... There's is always next season!
