Match Report

Captain's Cup Final

Written by Gary Parker

A cool autumn evening to kick off the new season and the long awaited captain’s cup final.

I won the toss and some thoughtful picking commenced. Once we got out onto to the pitch, I realised I only had one defender…oops!

With the game being such high stakes I was nervous as to how it would pan out but my nerves were settled early on when Brian played a cross field grass cutter to Ben who took a touch and confidently fired it into the net. First goal of the season. A great start.

Around 15 minutes after the first goal the Whites equalised. A long range hopeful shot from Andy E was uncharacteristically spilled by Bren and the ball dropped into the path of Jay, who pounced onto the gift and nudged it over the line. Another quality one yarder from Jay.

The game continued and the Yellows were pressing well and constantly looked dangerous. From a yellows corner, the ball was cleared out to Ali. He rifled the ball low back into the box toward me, I flicked the ball into the direction of the goal and Tom gave it a deft flick around the keeper. 2-1.

It remained tight but the whites were not giving up. Blake (I can’t shoot lower than the fence) Sheen had an opportunity to put things level, he found himself with a golden opportunity to test the keeper, just inside the box with acres of space but it thankfully sailed over.

The match was finally settled through a counter attack goal. We won the ball back from a whites attack and got the ball quickly through to Tom who sealed the win for the Yellows.

Unlucky for the Whites who played well but the well organised Yellows defence and clinical finishing got us over the line. Many thanks to my team for putting in a stellar performance and to Peter for playing out of position at centre back.

M.O.M - I could pick anyone from my team, exemplary from each player but I’ll go with Tom for bagging the two goals and sealing the win.

Commiserations Andy, to almost win the captains cup back to back is no small feat. Had you have won the toss it may have been a different story.

Here’s to another great season.
