Match Report

Written by Laurie Evans

On a chilly but otherwise excellent night for football it was a case of Old v Young. I won the toss and opted for first pick hoping that the extra man wouldn't count too much with high numbers. Fortunately I was able to pick Bren early on and still had a balanced side.

The game kicked off and both sides seemed very evenly matched. Our team pressed well and forced a couple of scrappy goals with Ali's assistance.

The whites however were a constant threat but with Tom solid at the centre of our defence, they were reduced to some long range efforts. It was one of these from Blake from well out that I think caught Bren out unsighted. In fact the only time he saw the ball was to pick it out of the net. 2-1 now and the game was set up nicely.

Ali came out of goal and added extra firepower for the whites particularly on the right. We managed to soak up any pressure and hit them on the break with Andy Eyres firing home and then a great cross from Gary saw Jay score with a fine diving header.

We ran out 5-1 winners in the end with Bren solid as ever in goal.

Several candidates for MOM including Tom at the back and my very hard working midfield trio of Jay, Andy E and Andy M. In the end, it has to go to Jay for his tireless effort in midfield and two goals

A really good game with a scoreline that flattered us a little. Here's to the second leg Ben.
