First leg score: Gary 1 - 2 Andy.
With the picking over and due to being forced to take Richie, my team donned the Yellow shirts and the match got underway.
The Yellows started lively with some exciting passing and intricate team play. It didn't take long before Andy E unleashed a long range drive to put us 1-0 up. The Yellows continued with their dominant play and Dave added another two to make it 3-0 with around 20 minutes played.
The Yellows had the momentum and it felt like it was going to be one of those games that we were going to run away with. But the Whites struck back from a corner. Nick pulled away from his marker in a crowded box and headed Jay's cross perfectly into the far corner. Bren could only stand and watch the ball float in.
Shortly after the restart the Yellow's found themselves too far forward and short at the back. The Whites hit back on the counter with Jay scoring a diving header to make the score 3-2.
The momentum was beginning to swing the other way. Still, I felt assured as I had the resolute Bren in goal, the only problem is, he's been watching replays of Modric non stop since Tuesday, and every cleared ball or pass was with the outside of his boot. I was holding my breath every time!
The Yellows recomposed themselves and deservedly got another goal. Dave putting in his 3rd. 4-2. A reply from the Whites, Paul S scored to make it 4-3. However Dave hadn't finished just yet and slotted in his fourth to seal the win.
Game Over. 5 - 3
An impressive haul for Dave, who's four goals puts him 4 clear for the golden boot. The largest margin all season. If I was paying attention, I would have dropped him into defence sooner! Drat!
Overall a very entertaining and enjoyable match. Lots of pass and move, fast paced football from both teams. Great to see.
MoM - Difficult to pick a man of the match, but Andy E gets it for me. His influence in the middle of the pitch kept the yellows composed and the football fast flowing.
Richie, thanks for turning up.
