Match Report

Written by Brendan Crilley

For the second week in a row this was a game of two halves. Bren (whites) choosing an offensive team backed up by Neil and Andy H in defence and in that first half of missed chances for both teams, a sublime finish by Richie and a cool one on one finish by Tom gave the whites a two goal lead.

Neither team deserved a lead and the two goals came between Gary being thwarted by a flying fat Geordie, once to tip past the top right, the other hard and low to the bottom left.

Then disaster struck and the proverbial 'light strikes twice' occurred as for the second week in a row Andy's yellows clawed back the deficit to win.

Many reason can be cited for such painful implosion of form. Richie being shot by a sniper and falling in a staged pirouette only recovering enough to side foot back pass when shooting. Then Andy H, after an impressive first halve succumbed to blisters on both heals, a dirty trick perhaps instigated from someone putting salt in his shoes!!!!

The four point gap at the top for Bren is gone and despite his own solid performance, he was left bemoaning Whites poor finishing and a very good Mark between the opposition sticks, so much so that Bren decided to take the ball home in an attempt to have the game void.

Andy's yellows out played the whites for a ten minute period and over ran an exhausted and defence. Neil was outstanding at times but they attacked with pace and every initial shot saved seemed to fall to a yellow.

Whites rallied at 4-2 down, with Andy H hitting the cross bar, two one on ones being missed and a header powered wide by Tom. This was a game of one side finishing better than the other, the margin being tighter than the three goals.

Two games left, all to play for. The goal difference could give Andy A the title next week but a win for Bren takes this seasons end to the wire.

Man of the match is clearly a Yellow and whomever shot Richie from the trees or filled Andy H's trainers with sand and salt, however as such attacks were clandestine in nature and without suspect, my award goes to Gary who scored three and whose work rate was key to the quick attacking capability of the yellows.
