Match Report

Where to begin with this one!

The task was simple, win and the championship was mine, fortunately, the same still applies for next week!

Having been on a good run of form, I was now top on superior goal difference, so Bren had choice on the night. The low numbers made picking difficult for us both I think, but a good 5-1 thrashing probably wasn't a fair representation of the score, nevertheless it happened.

The game started off quite briskly, but with few real chances, but then IT happened! Paul Hackett of all people scores his first goal for 4 years, and suitably strips off and peels away swinging his shirt around his head. Sergio Aguero he is not! :D A great goal, and worthy of the celebration, but weak wrists from the goalie contributed - Nick, I know a few exercises that will help with that!

Whites seemed determined to press the self-destruct button, and continued sloppiness in passing was affecting us. Another goal from Richie put the yellows 2-0 up.

I pulled one back soon after with a low drive in the bottom corner, with Bren unsighted, still admiring his earlier save from Jay! 2-1, but that didn't last long. Gary soon made it 3-1 with a stuffy toe banger through my legs and the keepers.

We were arguably still in the game at 3-1 and I would imagine Bren's bum-hole twitching at this stage, having had a 2 goal lead in the last two games eroded! With Richie still trying to 'meg everyone, we created a few chances, but struggling to remember much in terms of good chances, though my subconscious has blocked the evening from my memory!

It wasn't to be this week...Andy H yet again bought someone else's boots with him and got blisters, so took a stint in goal. With the shout of "keep it simple lads" as one of his favourites, then rolled out a pass from the back straight to Sylvain to square for Gary's second of the night!

4-1 was a tough ask, we pushed more up, and left one at the back, as I had to take more risks. This was further punished and 5-1 it finished with Sylvan wrapping up the scoring.

A good performance from the yellows, and kept the pressure on all game this time. For the whites, it just wasn't our day, perhaps wrong tactics, but I won't dwell on it. I have to win next week, though a draw will do for Bren, will this affect the tactics!? It should be a great night to round off the season whichever way it goes...

Man of the match can only go to one person...a great goal, but all round had a great game, solid at the back, always involved - Paul Hackett
