Match Report

Written by Tom Kophamel

On arrival I was informed that it was time for the Duffers Cup to commence and it was to be myself and the league champion to kick it all off. With my 100% loss record as Captain on the line, I thought tonight ought to be my lucky night.

It was then time to pick teams. Both Andy and I looked up and down the players numerous times before each pick making sure we left Richie till the very last (luckily I had first pick). Both teams seemed balanced and very attack heavy.

The yellows had a very nervous start to the game with Harvey kicking the ball out of play at every possibility and Chris letting the ball roll right past. The whites seemed keen to take advantage of this and pressed high but to no avail.

The yellows managed to withstand the pressure and then apply some of their own. They were rewarded with two goals on quick succession.

The whites continued to press for a goal of their own. Thanks to the end to end effort by all of the yellows, we were able to keep it tight at the back as well as punish the whites with two further goals on the counter attack.

The clinical finishing from the yellows didn't seem to worry Richie in goal. He seemed calm and composed as the Yellows rattled the crossbar to Blake's disapproval.

The whites didn't give up and kept on pushing forward. They were unable to make the most of numerous corners and my seemingly tiny arms. Andy managed to hit a rocket against the crossbar himself showing that it just wasn't going the be his day.

I was beginning to believe that we might have a rare clean sheet on the cards when Peter and Jay managed to combine to sneak one in at the near post.

A great effort from every player on the yellows! MOTM could have gone to any of you. For his CB to ST transformation I would love to give it to Nick, however the MOTM goes to the always hard working Gary Parker, his work rate kept the whole team together. Much appreciated! I'm happy to be out of the Duffers Cup. Good luck Andy!
