Lovely night for football and as is often the case the game was decided on the picking board. I had first pick and Bren in a charitable act of "Help the Aged" said I could have Paul as the extra man due to him being old and knackered I presume. I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
The game kicked off and the the yellows started really well with plenty of possession which resulted in a few half chances. This was the pattern of the first half with the whites threatening occasionally. Just as I was thinking this is going to be a nil nil draw decided on penalties and imagining trying to score past Bren, Jonny fired us into a well deserved lead.
A second goal followed soon after when Pete floated a great cross to the near post which Tom met with a well timed run and flicked his header into the far corner. This seemed to spur the whites into action and they equalised almost immediately through Andy Eyres.
The game was more even now and as the whites pushed for an equaliser the yellows countered with a rare shot from myself being parried by Bren and Mark pounced on the loose ball to score from close range 3-1. Once again the whites fought back and a good long range shot from guest Peter found the net. 3-2
Into the closing stages of the game and Gary made amends for a few missed sitters earlier on by finally scoring. The pressure was now off. Final score 4-2. A great performance by my team with everyone working very hard. Anyone could have won MOM but I'm going to give it to Mark who was very solid at left back and managed to also score.
Well played Bren and the whites, a really good game with a good fightback.
