Match Report

Written by Chris Stewart
It was my second time as captain and this time I was determined to learn from the mistakes I made on my first outing. After only being at the club for 2 weeks, Ben ran rings around me last time with a 7-3 victory after some school boy errors in team selection and having second choice. This time was different. I picked first.... I went for experience and people I knew would work hard and give 100% on the pitch. Even though Ben had the extra man this time, it didn't matter, we had a solid defence and a determination not to let the extra man count.

Ben chose yellows and got off to a flying start with Mac hitting the crossbar and Ben hitting the post. Some fantastic tracking back and defending kept the yellows at bay during this offensive spell. Any spectators watching would have thought it was a one horse race as the bombardment continued for the first 20 minutes.......Then BOOM! Andy Smith slots one home from 6 yards at the Daves near post. All this conceived from what I describe as a well placed pass to Andy at the far post (and others as a poor shot). Either way I claim the assist!

We had the lead. Now what was to follow was a bit of a blur... some sort of cross I think landed into the box, there was a head. A block. A Goal. An own goal. Alistair. An unfortunate mishap now put Ben level. We kicked off again and the game had picked up a level as both sides tried to steal a winner. Dave Graney kept us at bay with some superb saves from long range. His reactions of cat to the bottom left corner stopped Alistairs effort the first time around but another was just too much. 2-1! Alistair scores from another long range effort. Finally and in fairness a well deserved goal came from Mac. A great strike into the top corner from a great delivery into the box. 2-2.

On reflection, our draw felt like a victory. We worked hard without the extra man and done well to find 2 goals in what was one of the tightest games all season. Thank you to all the team who worked their socks off and to those that done a stint in goal throughout the game.
