Match Report

Written by Chris Stewart

The first leg of the Captains cup between myself and Harvey. I was whites and opted for first pick when I won the toss.... at this point I didn’t know it was uneven sides; apparently, Andy Houghton had dropped out a few hours before, leaving 9 v 8.

The game started quite slowly... yellows were a good attacking force but white had a fantastic shape and defended brilliantly against a dominant side. All credit to the whites in the first 30 minutes, in particular Neil who was getting in the way of everything. Yellows had lots of possession but there was nothing much coming off until one breakthrough goal occured after arounf 20 minutes.

The wind was blowing towards us significantly during the first half, so we decided at half-time to swap ends. In true +30 style this had the opposite affect.... the wind dropped and we had zero advantage and actually lost our shape and focus on what was a decent first half performance. Yellows scored another goal via "left back" Nathan to make it 2-0. At this point we realised we needed to pull one goal back to get back in the game.

We changed our shape slightly to try attack more...although we were defending well...Yellows were slowly picking us off goal by goal. So the best from of defense was to attack. We pushed Gary further forward and I came out of left back position to attack the yellows at their end of the pitch. We played some great football, getting closer to a goal via a crossbar from Dave and shots from Jay. However,  Blake smashed one in from distance to make it 3-0 and we are pretty much done with about five minutes ago.

Tom finished us off....I think it was from a corner. Final Score 4-0. It was not a complete reflection of the game...we should have got at least 1 and them scored less...some of the goals were dog shit jammy (weren't they Bren), but all credit to Harvey and his team selection that won the game. We were to overrun in midfield and had one less man...it made a huge difference with a cohort of younger players that can really punish you with the extra man.

Man of the match was Blake; he was brilliant in the middle of the field (for a change), but fully deserving of man of the match...he even got on the score sheet...I need to add that Richie was nowhere to be seen in this game.... with the yellow team attacking the whites so vigourously and Richie in goal, he was notibly lying on his back having a sleep, watching the game on the neighbouring pitch, picking his nose and generally doing what Richie does in his spare time. Unfortunately he will have to go home and tell Jen he did not get man of the match this week!
