Match Report

Written by Mark Austin

Only six games in and the season is already being defined by form, or rather lack of it. A huge gulf is developing between those at the top, that can't seem to stop winning, and those of us at the bottom that are trapped in a downward spiral of doom.

Feeling the pressure of losing three on the bounce, something that Richie constantly took the opportunity to remind me of, I decided to pick based on form. This meant avoiding Gary and Jay at all costs as they compete head on to break the record for most losses in a row.

Picking against Andy, I was happy with my selections until I got out to the field and realised I didn't have a keeper or even much of a defence. Taking the captain's responsibility between the sticks, Nick eagerly volunteered to play in defence with Graham. He later revealed that he had seen Richie shaping to play up front and fancied an easy night!

As it happened, Graham also had an easy night as he calmly cleared everything that came his way in the air whilst Nick was onto everything on the ground, even managing to kick Richie whenever he got the opportunity.

In all honesty it was a tight game with very few chances. A couple of half chances fell to Richie who will have to improve his finishing if he is to fully re-invent himself as the new Ian McKay. Other than that I had very little to do in goal.

We continued to push forward but only managed half chances that Bren comfortably dealt with. The only goal came from a nice turn from Tom and a clinical volley into the bottom corner past Bren's spazzy hand.

I can't really remember much else other than a moment of brilliance from Gary W as he managed to get out of a tight spot with a skillful drag back and pirouette before finding Jonny who proceeded to pass it straight to the other team. A moment that summed up our overall performance really.

Chris had a good game with his usual running around the pitch, intercepting everything but MOM has to go to Nick for such a composed performance and for making Richie look proper Shit.

Good luck to Gary and Jay in the coming weeks, we will all be rooting for you. Meanwhile I am going to savour these sweet sweet points.
