Match Report

Written by Nick Evans

On a cold but not too cold Wednesday evening, I arrived in the changing rooms full of adrenaline after hitching a ride from Jonny in his quadruple turbo BMX5000 series. Normally, I have to leave the house at 5:30pm in my 07' Renault Clio to make it on time, I can now see why he picked me up at 7.45pm.

The adrenaline immediately left my body as Gary informed me that it was my turn to pick. With the sides uneven, choice was mine and going against my usual tactics, I opted to go for first pick over extra man, believing this would not make too much of a difference on an already crowded pitch. This proved to be the first mistake of the night. That being said, I was happy with my selection and even happier that Richie was on the opposing team. Regrettably, the second mistake of the night.

The game kicked off and for the first 15 minutes the yellows absolutely dominated us. The extra man in midfield proved to affect the game significantly, going 2-0 down within this period. Apologies, I can't remember the first goal however the 2nd and 3rd were very avoidable. The first a mix up in communication between the (normally) ever-reliable Bren and Blake, with Richie and Dave combining well to tap in. After going 2-0 down, I switched things up with 3 at the back, pushing Chris into a midfield role. We pressed well and Gary was forced into a couple of good saves, we were back in the game. Jay decided to take his opportunity to get his revenge on me after some decent battles between us over the last few weeks, wiping out my back legs about 5 minutes after I had shot on goal. Apparently we don't do penalties, but VAR would not have been needed if this was the case. Yellows scored what seemed a bit of a fluke of a third against the run of play, being down the other end of the pitch I didn't see exactly what happened but the ball appeared to hit Bren's back and go in. Sorry if I've got that wrong!

To my dismay, I thought the final score was 2-0, meaning Gary and I were drawing on aggregate. I was informed after the final whistle that this was not the case. 4-3 to Gary on aggregate, and well deserved after a strong performance. I really ought to pay more attention! Overall, some great football was played and I thought Paul, Graham and Cush were all superb in defence for yellows.

MOTM - Neil. He was mega at the back for us.
