Match Report

Written by Harvey Baird

With the two new players in the squad and two experienced captains the picking was very tactical. Andy won the toss and had first pick and went with the, I want to play out so first pick was Bren as the goalkeeper tactic. Both of us were trying to get a balanced side and this meant that Dave was third to last pick. How did that happen???

On paper this was going to be a close game and that is what it turned out to be.

Watching on from goalkeeping duties we were generally on the front foot in the first 15 minutes but without being fully in control. We had some nice passing moves and Neil was pinging balls up to Tom but we never really threatened the goal. There were a couple of tame shots and easy saves for Bren to make. On the other side of the ball Andy’s team had one or two long range shots but always looked dangerous on the break but could not quite find the right pass or there was good cover from the yellows.

For the next 20 odd minutes the game ebbed and flowed with no one really taking control of the game.

The game changed in a 5 to 10 minute spell when the whites scored three quick goals. The first from a towering header from Gary via a long throw, followed quickly from a low angled shot from Andy and then a Jay special controlling a long ball and turning Tom inside out and putting the ball through my legs.

Chris scored a late consolation goal but after the three goal burst we were never really in the game.

Overall a good competitive and close game.

As for the two new players, time will tell if they make the cut, a good couple of weeks of footy and both will regain their fitness.

Good luck to Andy in the rest of the competition and to Tom for coming to the pub even though he lost.

As for the league title, things are becoming congested at the top of the table.  We have six weeks of the season left and it is going to be as close as the premiership race.
