The final score was 5-5 so I have no chance of remembering everything that happened but here goes!
It was announced that it was a captains cup game prior to arriving in the changing rooms and I really couldn’t be assed picking so inevitably I was drawn out too.
During the picking I wondered if I was doing something wrong as I deliberated each choice but Gary picked the next player immediately! Turns out he knew what he was doing and ended up with a strong team consisting mostly of midfield runners but lacking in defenders.
The yellow team was a bit more balanced and needed to be good defensively to soak up the attacks we were continuously under from the start. The whites making the most of this by going into a 2-0 lead and it was looking like it was going to be a long night!
But the yellows kept soaking up the pressure and snatched back a counter attacking goal. The game then swung back and forwards with yellows somehow managing to keep pulling goals back after conceding. The whites were shell shocked and yellows grew braver and started to push out more. Some in fighting in the whites lead to mistakes and the yellows were 5-4 up and couldn’t believe it. Richie signing off with a nice hatrick.
I then missed a glorious chance which surely would have secured me a win and put me in the next round!! Chris then quickly punished me and grabbed the equaliser, 5-5. Even after that there was missed opportunities with the yellows hitting the post and a very near own goal.
So it came down to penalties and it turns out I can’t take those either and missed them all. So Gary progresses, good luck!
Big mention to Laurie for making a comeback and good luck for the op next week.
MOM goes to another legend...Hackett, who didn’t stop running all night and put in some crucial tackles.
