After a week of sleepiness nights with a Newborn and the league wrapped up already, I was looking forward to a friendly with new guests on a hot summer night. But as always Gary P likes to keep me on my toes by announcing it is my Captains Cup Semi-final vs Tom.
I was selected to have first pick or the extra man. I wanted first pick so I can get Bren in goal but somehow Tom still ended up picking first?! (I have been told afterwards at the pub this is a disqualification. Tom please speak to Richie to plea your case). When all the usual members were picked, Tom and I were left baffled to work out who these guest names were but in the end we still didn't know who the fuck Martin is?! I picked Nick and John who Tom said he is useless but I called his bluff - he was actually decent!
The game were fairly even but the whites were more cohesive with a distinct way of playing - knocking it up to Neil up top to build up the play. Could this be his new position next season? and will Gary P be the new left back?! The guests definitely improved the standard of the game and it was much faster than usual, I wonder throughout the game where my extra man is! Jonny had most of the chances for the whites, hitting both posts whilst Peter had the best chance for the yellows with only the goalie to beat. Richie had a few chances but as Martin pointed out, he needs 5 warm up chances before he puts one away. The game ended in a goalless draw and it comes down to penalties. Tom had the fresh legs and completed the win on his 4th spot kick.
MOTM would have gone to Jonny if he converted one of his chances but since it is a nil-nil I'm going with Nick who defended well and played some good passes out of defence. Reminds me of Graham at times when he actually turns up.
Congratulation Tom on the win, good luck in the final. It was nice to catch up with the lads at the pub, going to make more appearances at the halfway next season since United isn't playing on a Wednesday.
Gary Ten Hag (?) - yeh the new name still need work.
