Match Report

Written by Blake Sheen

On a rare evening of 9 v 9 and the activation of stand down list, it was 2 of the old pro’s that had the privilege of picking.

We both took our time on purpose with the main objective of starting the game late and annoying Jay. It seemed to work and we were happy with our teams which looked fairly well balanced

With this being my second game after 6 weeks off and nursing a tight hamstring, I started in goal and had a good view of the game. It was fairly competitive for a pre season friendly with Jay flooring James in an off the ball incident that not many saw. He was clearly still upset from the 08:05 KO.

The Yellows started brightly and I personally thought we were the better team in the opening 20. However, a well taken goal by Johnny and decent yet slightly deflected shot by Gary W put the Whites 2 nil up.

I informed my team to keep steady and continue as we were. Shortly after, Jamie, whos energy was excellent, thumped a mid range shot into the centre of the net. 2-1. I then decided to give myself a run out, asking Brian to go in goal after he suffered a slight injury from one of his usual heroic blocks. The game was fairly even from this point on with Dave holding the ball up well but failing to notch as Whites blocks multiple shots. The chairman put in his usual solid performance and another excellent performance from Cush kept things steady at the back whilst bursting forward when needed. Some nice touches and balls into the box from Matt meant the chances continued to come. Eventually Nathan equalised with a very well taken goal from a superb cross by Dave.

Final score 2-2

A big thank you to my team but also to the 4 players who fell on their sword (or more accurately were forced to shove their sword up their a*se) and stood down

The game was followed by the AGM which was again thoroughly well run by Andy. All 9 guest players were voted in via our new robust voting system. 1 or 2 new rules were voted in and the guests, I would hope, got a good idea of how the club is run. Highly efficient, highly organised, highly retarded.

Speaking of the latter, I promised I wouldn’t mention James’s assault of the corner flag. It was aggressive and unprovoked. Learning from Hackett from the off. You’re a legend already in my book
