Captain Cup Final - Part 3

Yet another meeting between Harvey and Andy (is this getting boring or what), with the previous two finals being shared.

I guess with Liverpool playing Man Utd, the numbers where slightly down, which meant the painful process of lots of running around.

Harvey, Dave, Neil, Alistair, Ritchie, Mark, Brian
Andy, Andy M, Paul, Gary, Bob, Noel, Ken
Final Score - Harvey 1 Andy 0

Over the whole hour of the game it was a tight and tense affair. The longer the game went on the more it looked like it was going to be nil nil, or it was going to take a lucky goal. That's not to say there where not chances at both ends and some good football being played. There were good saves by Neil and Brian and Ken on a couple of occasions, along with some poor finishing and poor last passes. As it was, it was a marginally lucky goal that settled the game. The ball came out to Alistair and he drove it back into the box and much to the surprise of everyone the ball settled in the back of the net ("it was the worst shot of the night" stated Ali in the dressing room), but who cares as long it is a goal.

With 5 minutes to go, it still left a little time for Andy's team to mount a challenge. As would expect, some panick set in and there was a couple of desperate blocks and one mad scramble and Ritchie pretending to be back in defence, which is always a problem. Difficult to pick out a man of the match as there were some very good performances on both sides, but I would marginal go for Mark over Neil, just because he worked his socks off with a hangover!!!! Or so he stated.

Comment of the night, the ball came of Mark's head in an unusual direction "I saw Paul running towards me out of the corner of my eye and didn't want to get hurt". And I thought we were all friends.

Thank you to my team on Wednesday for putting in the effort and anyone who played in my teams during the run to the final, which I think covers everyone in the club.
