Once again, the stand down list was put into use, so a full complement of 9-a-side expected.
I ended up having first pick, and studying the form guide, went for Nathan, as the early challenger at the top of the league. Still plenty of time for that to fall apart though, no rookie has ever won the league...so no pressure.
Anyways, back to the game at hand, I was quite pleased with my squad, plenty of quality, and a decent attacking threat. Jonny's promises to not swear at anyone this week was technically adhered to, instead chose the route of 'full demotivation' of the whites, claiming that Nick must have been 'high' when he picked the sides. However, as a testament to the quality of the personnel at our disposal now, this was a tight game...
Yellows started off really brightly, creating chances with Paul S, Tom, and Nathan combining well as a trio on a number of occasions. We seemingly had plenty of the ball, and at times possibly got a bit comfortable. With myself in goal, this would always give the whites hope, and a few rasping shots from Jonny and Jamie, tested my 'skills' taking one in the face early doors. Dominance in possession, and a packed midfield, saw us take the lead, with Tom and Nathan combining for a 1-0 lead. This was soon 2-0 with a surprise goal from our right back John D. At this point Jonny's face was purple with rage, but no swearing allowed!
Yellows were looking comfortable, and just on the half hour mark I came out of sticks (with a clean sheet) in a swap for Paul S, having tweaked his groin. Whites soon pulled a goal back, with Neil being dispossessed near the goal line, and Jonny finishing from a tight angle. 2-1
Yellows started to panic a little at this point, with the passing stats dropping miserably, and us giving the ball away constantly, we were keeping the whites in the game, when really we should have been comfortable. Nick pulled off a few blinding saves to keep the whites in it, but our 3rd goal soon followed, with tom collecting the loose ball, and slotting home 3-1.
The whites soon changed formation, and with Gary P now up un a more familiar strikers role, the whites started to grow into the game, and Gary soon got on the Scoresheet 3-2. Yellows were now seeing more pressure, with the whites seeking an equaliser, but it was the yellows 4th goal soon followed, with Tom getting his 2nd goal of the night.
Laurie had been patrolling the deep lying midfield role with quiet authority, but went in nets for the final 15 mins and decided to chuck one in his own net, seemingly put off by the shout of "Ross's" who was stood on the golf course, and nowhere near the ball! 4-3, with a nervy final 5 mins for the yellows. We made hard work of the win, but in the end that's all that matters, Paul S delighted to move off the bottom of the table too!
MOM contenders, there were plenty to choose from on both teams, Nick's goalkeeping was impressive, but I cant give it to the opposition, so this week it goes to John D, he had a stinker last week, but made up for it this week, despite a few ambitious passes, was solid at the back, and a bonus goal to top it off.
