Match Report

Written by Nathan Rodway

Well, here we are again, Captain - As the old saying goes, it’s like making love to the queen… it’s a great honour, but no one wants to do it.

Cush (whites) and I (yellows) had the honour and the privilege this week and it was my turn to pick first or go for the extra man. I went for first pick on this occasion and James reminding me earlier he was on for his 7th loss in a row, I decided to let the bad luck charm go on Cush’s team by default…

Happy with our teams and delighted with the opportunity to go in goal the game began.

First 15mins the whites made the most of the extra man, Paul S in the Xabi Alonso role passed the ball around well, a couple of shots from both teams forcing decent saves from the keepers until the ball came to Neil outside the box with his powerful shot causing chaos, a save by me deflecting straight into Brian for an unfortunate own goal.

At this point the whites were dominating possession but couldn’t quite get their second goal In spite of Paul S firing in some shot-crosses which may have knocked Jay out had he been brave enough to get on the end of it.

Nick kindly volunteered to go in goal in the second half allowing me to have a run out, (he must have read my rant in the pre match texts) Cush’s teammates weren’t so kind however and leaving a player of that quality in goal might have been the cutting edge for us as the game began to open up.

A lovely bit of play from the yellows saw a ball over the top nodded down perfectly by Gary in to Tom to get the equaliser.

Shortly after a scrappy fight for the ball and shot by me saw the yellows 2-1 up.

Minutes later it was 2-2 after a counter attack from the whites saw Jamie get his goal with a solid finish.

Both teams were going all out for the win while Jonny and Gary continued to blame each other for not getting on the end of each other’s terrible passes.

Another 2 goals from the yellows in quick succession made it 4-2 (Bodies flying all over the place for Tom’s goal and the Paul H and Tom saga continues)

The game seemed out of sight and the yellows looked like they were about to get a 5th but for a good tackle from Paul H and before anyone knew what happened the ball was in the back of the net from a Dave O goal. 4-3 to make the last 5mins interesting but the Yellows held on for the win in a very exciting game overall before the Christmas break.

Plenty of choices for MOTM but I’ll give it to Tom, 2 goals and 1 assist, no one likes playing against him, especially Paul H apparently!

Merry Christmas.
