On an evening with weather worthy of a Summer Cup game, 16 players (including 3 guests) turned up at Vauxhalls. Nick and Myself were chosen as captains in our first-round clash of the Duffer's Cup. Picking got underway and then the teams made their way to the pitch.
Realising that Nick had chosen the only regular Goalkeeper, in Ken, on his team, I decided that I would start myself in Goal. Playing a 3-3-1 formation.

Kick off.

Apart from a 5 minute slow start - the game in general was pretty pacey. With even sides not allowing for much time on the ball it quickly a pass-move style of play. After about 10 mins of end-to-end football, Yellows broke the deadlock with a counter attack goal from Gary. A lofted ball over the top from Si found Gary. Which he gratefully slotted past Ken. 1-0.

With so many goals in this game, I have to say its hard to keep a track on who scored when.
I remember there were a few similar goals from the Yellows, to the first, hitting the Whites on the counter-attack with Si and Gary both linking up well. Blake and Carl providing the solid wall in and around them to keep hold of possession.

I think it was around 3-0 when the whites punished Paul for, as Dave Grainey would say, "fannying around at the back" - Terry latched on to a loose pass and passed to the ever present fox in the box Ali to clinch a goal back. 3-1.

A few more goals came from the Yellows to get to 6-1, extinguishing any hope for the Whites.

It was at this point in the match when I thought I'd have a run out, replacing Paul at centre-back. We got a corner with about 10 mins to go. So I lurked outside the area, waited for the ball to drop to me and buried it in the bottom corner. 7-1! I really couldn't believe it.

The final goal of the night came from another corner. Carl whipped a sharp ball in from the right, which hit Ken and deflected in. 8-1.

Full time.
With the scoreline as 8-1, I can only think that the yellows were inspired by Brazil's 7-1 mauling by Germany.
All the best for the next round Nick. Hope you can get the win you need mate.

Now to the subject of Man of the match, there were few mistakes any of the players on the Yellows team, so, by statistics, I'll have to give to Si. For 3 assists and a Hat-trick in his first game as a guest.
