After only 2 weeks ago dropping into the duffers cup I found myself drawn as captain and an opportunity to play myself out of the competition nobody wants to win.
Up against Jay I had luck on my side as I got first pick and opted for a strong attacking side, Jay going for a defensive bed rock of Neil and Nick at the back.
Whites got off to a flyer and were 2 up inside the first 5 minutes. Yellows not sure what hit them started to play a bit trying to hit either Nick E or Richie upfront with some long balls. But the overall great possession by the whites, with nice pass and move one touch stuff between Nathan Jonny and Jamie, in particular, produced a couple more goals and whites were cruising at 4-0.
But, a couple of fortuitous moments in the space of a minute threatened to turn the game on its head. First a wildly deflected shot found the corner and then a blocked clearance looped over my head and into the net. From nowhere it was 4-2 and the yellows tails were up and applying some real pressure for the first time.
Another goal from the whites effectively sealed the game and were followed by more to finish the game at 8-2 for a comfortable win and the relief of being out of the duffers.
