Match Report

Written by Harvey Baird

Before we get to the game it was a sad night as we marked the passing of the club legend and president - Ken.  It was fantastic to see some of the ex-players turn up and pay their respects with a minutes silence and some words ("Ken would have loved that we were playing in the rain").

As for the game, I had a quick look at the league table before the game and tried to pick players near the top of the table so they could try and close the gap on Nathan and ensure we go into the last couple of games with the league still up for grabs.

However, the execution of the plan failed.  For most of the first half Gary's team were in control and had the better of the game apart from one great finish from Nick to put us one up.  Such jubilation and Nick ripped off his top and ran to Laurie to show a specially designed T-Shirt in honour of Ken - 20 minutes later we were still awaiting for Laurie to work out how to use the smart phone camera and take a picture.  The next 10 to 15 minutes Gary's team were clinical in their finishing.  Everything hit the side of the net and even James got in on the act with a volley that flashed passed me before I could move. From 1 nill to 4-1 down.

The last third of the game was a lot more even and the whites had plenty of chances to make the game more interesting going into the final stages.  However, our finishing was not of the same standard and we could only really trouble the fence behind the goal or easy saves for Gary.

Man of the match - I was going to go for Ritchie for drinking beer on the sidelines (is that allowed on an FA registered pitch?) but there could only be one MOM as he was quite some distance the best player on the pitch - Nathan.

Post game - As the night was slightly nostalgic we had Ritchie turning the lights off - I have a feeling Ken may have had something to say to him and a fantastic turnout in the pub.

Good luck to Gary W in the captains cup.

Ken Hughes - President RIP.
