Match Report

Written by Nathan Rodway

After a difficult game in the title race last week with my team playing well and losing, I wasn’t confident coming into this one so I tried everything to get the teams even numbers but Harvey came through with the latest of late calls to tip the balance!

With the teams picked, my plan was simple, put Gary P centre back (he played there a few weeks ago against me and it was a nightmare) and get everyone else running.

Within the first 5 minutes it was clear that the balance of this whites team was perfect as they clicked instantly, outnumbering the yellows in midfield, Gary W, Jamie and Dave O were in their element as the yellows really struggled to find their way and get on the ball.

Soon the whites were 1-0 up after Dave played me through with a left footed strike past Bren.

The whites continued to create chances and then a nice corner from Jamie and a simple free header from me made it 2-0!

I still felt yellows were going click at some point so I wasn’t getting over confident especially after last week.

That said, we continued to be first to every ball and I felt that every player on this team either wanted me to win the league or hated Tom! Or maybe every player on both teams…

Next, a great ball over the top from Jamie and I managed to sneak in a 3rd and we were flying!

The midfield 3 for the whites continued with their dominance and Jamie found himself in space and curled a powerful shot in from distance 4-0!!

It was going to our heads a little bit and a lapse in concentration saw Paul S play it back to Tom from kick off who hit a perfect strike from just behind the halfway line looping over Nick S in goal, unbelievable goal, but unfortunately for the yellows the highlight of their game.

I swapped with the mighty Gary P at centre back to give him a free roam role and stood at the back with Nick S watching some of the best footy I've seen on a Wednesday, some one and two touch passing, keeping the ball well and yellows just about managed to stop one of the best team goals from going in.

The final goal came from another long range effort from Jamie who was unplayable on the night, his shot too powerful for Harry (now in goal) to stop and made it 5-1.

Very difficult to give MOTM as everyone was brilliant on the whites but I’ll give this one to Gary W, played the holding roll very well and didn’t even use all 4 touches at times! The rest of you I owe you a pint for helping get the league over the line.
