A scorcher down at Vauxhall Sports Club for the Captains Cup second round. Gary Wong bringing his own 5-a side team led to an interesting first pick, and with little knowledge of the guests' ability I decided to pick based on whoever had the nicest boots, which seemed to pay off until we quickly realised they were all pretty decent.
A close start to the game with the score staying at 0-0 and the only goal coming from Cush for the Yellows, unfortunately on his 5th touch. A nice finish nonetheless.
I threw it back to my goalkeeping days with some pretty crucial saves, but couldn’t keep out a powerful strike from Nick S into the bottom corner to make it 0-1 to the Whites.
Yellows pulled one back through Harry who found himself through on goal, but somehow one of the newbies managed to dink one over me to regain the lead for the Whites. A debatable lob, but definitely a great finish. 1-2.
Gary W came out of goal and took 5 first touches, whilst I came out and ran straight to the opposite touchline to get a drink, the heat was testing everyone's fitness for sure.
A nice shot / cross by Harry was tapped in by Gary P to make it 2-2, but a quick succession of errors at the back and Harry’s best David James impression saw the Whites take a 2 goal advantage. 2-4.
Yellows pulled a late goal back but unfortunately there wasn’t enough time for the equaliser as Dave O took around 10 mins putting his gloves on to go in goal. Final score 3-4.
A close one for MOM with some solid performances all round, but I’ll give this one to Richie for keeping James in his back pocket all night and so he can finally tell his Mrs he’s won something. (Needs to tone it down in the pub though.)
Best of luck in the next round, Gary.
