Match Report

Captains Cup Final

Written by Nathan Rodway

A full house this week and as Gary shouted “heads or tails” I looked at Stewy to give him chance to call, but with no reply so I called heads and won the coin toss to his absolute disgust.

Dream start for me as I got to pick Bren in goal which proved to be very significant as the night went on.

With the teams picked the game began and the yellows started really well, putting on the pressure and creating chances with  Nick S playing very well in the unfamiliar role of left back due to Ed ‘filling’ the centre back position and leaving no space for anyone else.

The early pressure led to a great goal from Dave O, at a very sharp angle 1-0 yellows!

Jamie seemed to have it in for me with a couple of late tackles followed by a clearance smashing me straight in the nose, used to like that guy.

Somewhere in the middle of the carnage I managed to score the second of the night and that seemed to be what set a fire under the whites as we could no longer get on the ball as they began to dominate and pass the ball around brilliantly.

After about 30mins Stewy came out of goal for Brian, and I think it would have been an awfully difficult night for the yellows if he played out the whole match.

Chance after chance or I suppose half chance after half chance as our now 5 man defence of Jonny, Andy, Paul H, Ed and Nick S were unbelievable and anything that got past them was stopped by Bren or went high over the fence! Speaking of which, Blake tried really hard with his long range shooting all night but some went 10 yards left, some went 10 yards right and some went 10 yards over, non of this seemed to deter him though as he continued in his pursuit of a worldly and finally had a shot that forced a good save from Bren much to the surprise of everyone.

The odd counter attack from the yellows bringing about a couple of really good saves from Brian but in the last 10mins yellows somehow made it 3-0 from a storming run down the middle from Nick S laying the perfect pass for me to put away.

The last action of the night came from Stewy who had a long range effort blocked, managed to win it back and beat a man and blast it from distance into the far corner - quality goal.

All in all a really good game and I am sure Stewy and the whites will feel they deserved to win but a battling defensive display from the MOTM Ed got us over the line for the win and got me the Captains cup! Thanks lads!
