Match Report

Written by Nathan Rodway

After begging Gary not to put me captain this week as I had "sprained" my wrist and couldn't go in goal, the announcement came - "Nathan v Jamie". Nice one.

Everyone kept telling me it wasn't a rule for captains to go in goal anyway so at least this gave an opportunity for that to all change and bring in the rolling keepers; no, not Bren with the last minute fitness test or Graham when he trips over the kids toys - We are all wondering if he got any first aid though…

Anyway - struggling for numbers Stewy came straight from work to make the 7:50pm deadline and ensure we had a game, while Blake brought his kit for him. Paul was horrified to find he only had pink hot pants in the bag and no footy shorts, there was a moment of panic until he realised it was a classic prank from Blake.

On paper the yellows looked pretty strong and I think that caused some complacency as the whites were really up for the game with everyone, even Richie, putting in a shift.

The deadlock was broken after a good cross from Neil was flicked in at the far post by Stewy. Moments later a simple long ball got the better of the yellows defence and Cush controlled and finished well to bring the game level.

Again, a good passing move from yellows led to Stewy setting me up just outside the area to make it 2-1 only for the whites to equalise again soon after a terrible back pass from me went straight to Cush to slot home 2-2.

The yellows continued to try and break through the white defence but every time we got close Paul H would deliberately handball it (at least 4 times) and Bren being his usual self was making some great saves.

Whites continued to be a threat on the counter with CB Richie now playing up top and linking up well with Jamie who seemed to be everywhere.

Yellows came close on several occasions with Andy hitting the post and bar and Stewy also hitting the bar!

Eventually the goal came after some good link up between Stewy and Nick S who played me through to finally put the ball past Bren. 3-2

For the last 15 minutes both teams came close but the yellows hung on for the win.

A really good game this week and sets up an exciting return leg later on in the season. MOM Cush.
