After delaying picking for a good 5 minutes, Blake finally emerged from the club house toilets so we could commence our first captain's duties of the season. I opted for a solid defence of Nick, Ed and Ross, with Stewy, Jonny, Laurie and Chris in midfield, supporting Tom up tops on his own.
The yellows started the game strongly, and Richie made the most of our slow start, hitting a bit of a speculative effort which deflected off my Dad and deceived myself in goal to put them 1-0 up after about 10 minutes. Fortunately, apart from some medical advice after the game (more on that later), this was Richie's only contribution of the night apart from stopping the match for 10 minutes or so whilst he struggled to take off his under-armour.
After the restart, it became apparent that the whites were being overrun in midfield, so we changed things up with Jonny going into the middle to sure things up, with Laurie later slotting into the left back position and Nick having license to roam. The change soon paid dividends, with Jonny doing well to finish from a tight angle (from what I can remember). Some more nice football followed from the whites, with us getting much more of a grip on the game. Chris put us 2-1 up with an excellent finish from a volley, right into the corner past Bren who couldn't do much but watch. With the yellows pressing to get an equalizer, we took advantage of the space with Stewy slotting home the third to put the game to bed.
Final score 3-1 in a very closely fought and competitive game, as is now the new norm on a Wednesday night!
Once back in the dressing rooms, my Dad announced he had been suffering from back spasms since the first 5 minutes, although you'd never have known it! As we were leaving the changing rooms, Richie very kindly offered some recovery advice that he had learnt from playing with his Dad back in the day. The less said about it the better, but let's just say it's no wonder that Dave doesn't play anymore!
MoM - a few contenders but going to give it to Chris for his excellent finish and for his running. Thanks to all of the whites for a solid performance and a great effort overall.
