Match Report

Written by Ed Johnson

It was the opening day of the league campaign and a Captain’s Cup Final all in one night. The excitement was palpable as the players arrived for kick off. Ed J vs Gary W.

Ed’s first tactical decision was thrusted on him out of the blue. First pick or extra man was asked. "16 players" he blasted... Gary P couldn’t make head nor tail of the picking board as 17 names appeared. Who was the phantom player...?

Ed controversially decided to go for first pick rather than extra man, a decision which looked like backing fire until later in the game.

The game started evenly with both teams passing it around neat and tidily. After the whites had spurred a couple of glaring chances in front of goal (no names lads), out of nothing, Andy E caressed a trademark left footed shot passed the stranded Johnson in goal. No chance and the yellows were 1-0 up.

The whites were playing some lovely stuff but continued to miss chance after chance. They were nearly made to pay as Andy E, amongst others, tested out the big man in goal. Fortunately, he managed to get in the way of a few to keep it at 1-0.

As time was ticking on towards a Gary W Cup Final win, Richie S and Ed J swapped, with Richie resorting to old school long ball tactics. Lump it up to the big men was what it had resorted to and fortunately a few minutes later, Harvey B swung in a lovely cross, for Ed J to dummy it in the box (actually he completely missed the ball not out of choice but lack of ability) and it fell to Nick S at the back post who calmly slotted it away to equalise.

The game finished 1-1 and a Cup Final replay will follow. Oh the drama, oh the excitement. And as for that phantom 17th player, all was revealed in the pub, hey Chris S. That new poll is really quite complicated...!

MOM - Richie. Never stopped running and created the equaliser.

End.
