Match Report

Written by Gary Wong

Debut win for Pete (Yellows) as his side came from 2 goals down to secure a narrow 4-3 lead in the first leg!

Gary W (Whites) captaining for the 2nd week in a row, his 3rd this season already, had first pick with even sides and 1.5 goalies for selection.

I decided against picking all the goalkeepers tonight and the teams are finely balanced on the eve of Halloween. Pete decided to pick players who he has played with so far but left himself short in defense so he filled in the back - unlike Tom who thinks centre back means centre forward! He did score our first goal after a deflected shot - so I can't exactly shout at him for regularly venturing forward and eventually I had to move him up front!

Our very own Paul Scholes scored the second for the whites and the yellows heads dropped. Fair play for the yellows for not giving up, knocking at the door with some trick or treat football and Paul opened the door and gifted them a neat header into his own goal - yellows begin to rise from the dead. The night got spookier as Bren turned into the Dracula when a cross came into the box! He was so scared he threw the ball into his own goal! 2-2! Digging our own grave at this point. The whites tried their best to respond but we struggled to put our early passing combination together. Scholesy had another shot off the post and I came close to score on a few occasions.

Yellows scored two more with Jay who gave Paul a difficult time all night - scored a header against the man double his height and set up Chris for a shot pass Bren at his near post. I scored our last chance of the game with a swivel and low shot to keep myself in the second leg.

Man of the match goes to Jay who won the game for the yellows - been playing well since losing a few pounds. Maybe I should too for the 2nd leg! Well played whites, great effort, this was definitely a freaky night!
