Match Report

Written by Andy Eyres

Having not long got myself out of the Duffers cup with an epic penalty marathon vs Chris, it was time to pick again for the new season. I had choice, and decided to go with the extra man, thinking the smaller numbers would help - it didn't!

I was quite comfortable with selection, and thought I had a well-balanced team, with some players in fine form. First 10-15 mins was cagey though, with the teams weighing each other up, but the yellows were starting to create a few more chances, though we were looking solid enough until Paul let Dave through for a 1 on 1 with Blake and 1-0 yellows. The shout of "F**K" from Paul was to be frequent shout for the rest of the evening, acknowledging his errors.

There was discussion in the changing room before the game where Paul was audibly complaining he was not duly recognized in the match report for being "so sh1te" the week prior. So this week, a special mention must go to Paul for being sh1te this week, and maintaining the consistency for two weeks running.
His contribution to the Yellows goal tally should have him leading the assists chart, but unfortunately he was playing for the whites.

Back to the game, when the whites did manage to move the ball, we created a good number of chances, but couldn't make the final ball count, and once again, found a solid keeper and defence difficult to break down. What I will say is the whites played better football, and scored the better goals, with two well worked goals from Blake and Jay keeping us in the game, as we were always chasing the game. Yellows though, took full advantage each time Paul's feet got stuck in the sticky mud, scoring some woefully fortunate goals.

Can't really fault the whites for effort but just couldn't keep a foot hold in the game, and eventually limped to a 6-2 defeat - we tried everything - even kicking the Goalie in the head didn't work!

A long way back for me, and destined for another visit to the duffers.

Man of the match - Dave's 4 goal haul can't really be counted, as 3 of them were gifts, so this week it goes to Chris, even though he reminded me of Forrest Gump in his warm-up, nothing really got past him on Wednesday, solid performance.
