A fairly straightforward picking tonight although Andy didn't look pleased at all when I told him we were picking and that furthermore I was four goals up and had choice!
A few eyebrows were raised when I opted to put Neil up front, but he assures me on a weekly basis that strikers have the easiest job on the pitch so I was not as worried as my team mates.
The yellows started the game well and ten minutes in, a deft flick on from Neil took the ball around Paul and into Gary's path who slotted home. 1-0.
A second followed shortly after via a throw in from Tom, which went just over the head of the leaping Paul and landed at Gary's feet, a touch down and tucked it away for his second.
The white's had chances too. Their best chances came from Jamie's effort across goal that whistled a centimetre past the post and Harvey's blasted effort in front of goal about 3 metres wide!
We got our third shortly after, Neil created some space on the left, received the ball and with the last man closing him down, squared the ball to me for an easy finish. 3-0
Nick S, who had once again been found in Brian's back pocket, managed to escape for a brief moment as Brian was changing into his goalkeeper kit. In the midst of putting his gloves on Nick S had received the ball, dribbled round Brian and walked the ball into the net, leaving Brian sprawled out on the floor. The White's were not done, and followed up with another counter attack which saw Jamie bag another! 3-2.
The yellows now in danger of seeing a comfortable game slip away, stepped up their game from this point. Better passing and control of the ball, led to some better opportunities. Gary knocked in another two with assists from Neil and that pretty much put the game to bed.
I must not forget to mention that Neil had a glorious opportunity to solidify his claim for a permanent striking position but missed an open net from a yard out and hitting the post!
And finally, with the whites pushing everyone forward for the final few minutes, we broke away from a white corner, Dave bursting down the left, Hackett charged out and Dave got a toe to it to knock it across for me to tap into an empty net.
Final score 6-2.
MOM - Gary W. Outstanding performance. Controlled the game. Scored four goals. Brilliant. Neil a close second for his running and link up play. A modern day Victor Anichebe!
