Second leg of the double and I needed to recover from a 1-0 deficit. We kindly had two volunteer goalkeepers, although both were carrying injuries.
The consensus in the pub was that the game was won in the dressing room and the expertly picked teams by myself or in Jonny's words "did you have the first 6 picks".
The game started and the yellows were in full control. The whites were in a very low block (as the pundits like to call it), or in old school were getting battered. The yellows were playing some good stuff but could not score. This was either down to poor finishing or some decent defending and the ball hitting all parts of Brian's body. 15 to 20 minutes in and it was still scoreless and I was getting slightly nervous and not hoping for a breakaway goal.
The deadlock was broken via a scruffy goal and the second followed very quickly in a similar fashion. Thereafter, the yellows relaxed and continued to play some nice football and the goals started to flow. There were some nice goals with arguably the pick of the bunch being Jamie's volley cross/shot from a Cush corner. The whites kept working hard and were rewarded with the goal of the night from Ed. Ed emerged from a tussle with Tom and a quick turn, then a swing on the right foot and the ball flew in the top corner.
Final score 11-1 to the yellows.
MOM - goes to Bren (sorry, but your picking had the biggest influence on the outcome of the game according to the pub attendees).
