Match Report

Written by Ian McKay
I offered to do the match report for last night and Dave will do the report when we play again.

Dave won the toss and immediately elected to have first pick. I thought to myself he must have gone for first pick as the sides were even (will get the hang of this picking thing one day). Anyway we started with myself in goal, as I thought it only fair that Dave Graney had a go up front.

The first couple of minutes were pretty even, although I have to say, my goalkeeping was making my defence rather nervous. I was having a few Kenny moments trying to sort out whether it was a back pass or not and could I pick the ball up. After about twenty minutes I was getting the hang of that, although not before Blake had scored. Let me say to my team, that I did see him pass the ball towards me, I say pass as, I could never call it a shot, as when Blake shoots, he usually smashes it. I thought to myself just put your foot through the ball and clear your lines. I swung my leg and thought I must have caught that nice a sweet, as I never felt the impact, however, I became aware of a number of groans from my team and realised I'd not felt the ball, as I had completely missed it and it was now nested in the back on the net.

My team never let their heads drop and continued to press, with the whites restricted to hitting us on the break, but Brian, Bob and the very refreshed, just come back from a trip on the Nile, Doc, were not letting anything get passed, to their truly awful and unsteady goalkeeper.

The yellow's pressure was eventually rewarded with some very neat inter play between Chris and Ben, before a through ball was wonderfully struck home by Neil, 1-1-.

I then made a change, with Dave replacing me in goal. Ben instructed me to push right on up front, as basically I was getting in the way of Chris and him. This was sound advice, as shortly after this instruction, the ball broke to me, I touched it to Ben, who passed it to Chris, who then placed the ball deftly between Kenny's legs 2 - 1

The yellows continued to press and made a number of opportunities. One in particular, where Ben collected the ball on the left and produced a great cross, which Neil made a tremendous attempt to connect with, but the ball missed his toe by inches. I managed to block a clearance from Kenny, however although the ball rolled towards the goal, it rolled safely passed the post.

My team continued to play as a team, with special mention for Laurie and Mark, who with Neil, made my midfield very solid.

The whites tried to try and get a foothold in game, without causing the yellows much concern.

Man of The Match, difficult as there were a number of great performances. It was truly a team effort.

Man of the Match for the whites has to go to Alan Austin, who throughout the game was receiving very little support from his teamates, in trying to stem the attack of the yellows down his left. Alan was calm and as usual very supportive with his encouraging and constructive comments, to his fellow team members.
