This week saw the return of Jonny from a long term injury. It was good to see him back and as a reward, he was thrusted straight into Captaincy for his 2nd leg match versus Ed. Jonny had the option of 1st choice or extra man with 13 playing and opted for extra man. A good toss to lose, thought Ed based on the recent history of results. The sides were picked and the players went out into the torrential rain for a classic Wednesday night encounter under the lights.
The whites started well popping it about nicely despite having one less player and opened the account with a fine turn and finish from close range through Tom. The yellow’s grew into the game and got a deserved equalizer through a smart low range effort from Jamie. The whites then went into overdrive and in the blink of an eye were 3-1 and 4-2 up, with goals flying in from everywhere. Jay, also another long term absentee after a previous run in with the Vauxhall’s changing room door, scored amongst the melee of goals. Jonny’s yellow’s couldn’t be shaken off and clawed it back to 4-3. And people thought that United vs Bournemouth was the best game this week.
The white’s then found an extra gear to go 6-3 up with some excellent pressing and finishing. A consolation from Gary P late in the game making it 6-4 wasn’t enough and Ed’s whites managed to get the win and Ed snook through the tie.
Man of the Match was awarded to Tom for taking the ball’s home on Ed’s behalf (plus also scoring 3 goals, 2 assists, and leading the line admirably for the whites).
