Match Report

Written by Anthony Acquah

Anthony Acquah was handed first choice ahead of kickoff and wasted no time in making it count, selecting Gary Wong - a decision that paid early dividends. Wong broke the deadlock just 12 minutes into the match with a lovely, well-executed strike that set the tone for an open and competitive contest.

Despite the early setback, the game remained finely balanced. Both teams created chances in the opening exchanges, with play flowing end to end. Peter Hart’s side showed resilience and determination, and their persistence was rewarded when Dave Owen found the net to bring his team level and firmly back into the match.

The defining moment of the game, however, came soon after - and it was one Anthony’s side will want to forget. With the ball breaking to Anthony in goal, a badly placed pass went straight to opposition player Tom Kophamel. Spotting the keeper off his line, Kophamel kept his composure. He still had work to do, but executed it brilliantly, delicately lifting the ball over the retreating goalkeeper, who lost his footing while attempting to backpedal. A calamitous piece of goalkeeping, and a goal that shifted the momentum dramatically.

Even so, the contest was far from over. Anthony’s team showed real character, continuing to battle and refusing to fold. Their efforts were rewarded with a late equaliser, bringing the score to 2–2 with just 10 minutes remaining and setting up a tense finish.

What followed, though, turned the game completely on its head. Peter Hart’s team grabbed the match by the horns, raising their intensity and pressing with purpose. Two quick goals in the closing 10 minutes decisively settled the contest, sealing a strong finish and underlining their dominance when it mattered most.

A match full of twists, momentum shifts, and decisive moments - one that ultimately belonged to Peter Hart’s side after a ruthless late surge.  Final result 2-4 with the late goals coming from Tom and Dave again.

MOM - Tom Kophamel, just for having the gall to try that shot on me.
