Match Report

Written by Jay Parkinson

On a freezing Wednesday night, with fingers numb before kick-off and the pitch playing quicker than most legs could manage, the Yellows took on the Whites under the lights.

The Yellows started with decent intent, but it was the Whites who looked more dangerous going forward. Their movement caused problems early on, and it wasn’t long before Dave opened the scoring with a tidy finish to put the Whites ahead.

That goal gave the Whites control, and they never really let go. The Yellows tried to respond, but any momentum was repeatedly shut down by Nick in goal, who was in no mood for charity. Shot after shot was either smothered, tipped away, or met by a very loud shout of encouragement for his defenders.

The Whites kept knocking, and Dave doubled his tally after linking up well with Gary, before Andy added a third with a smart finish from the right. At that point, the Yellows were chasing shadows and questioning why they’d agreed to play football in midweek in the first place.

The Yellows did manage to get on the scoresheet, although it came courtesy of a generous deflection that looped past Nick — Tom won’t care, but everyone else noticed. Brief celebrations followed, mostly because it felt rude not to.

Any talk of a comeback was quickly put to bed when Dave completed his hat-trick, rounding off a strong all-round performance from the Whites. More fine saves from Nick ensured there would be no further flattery for the scoreline.

A cold night, a tough lesson for the Yellows, and a deserved 4–1 win for the Whites — with Nick’s heroics in goal making sure the damage didn’t swing the other way.

MOM - Twinny for some great saves.
