Match Report

Written by Michael Vicary

Once again myself & Johnny on opposing teams, this time as Captains! Teams looked well balanced with Johnny having choice.

Johnny’s Whites gained initial control passing around the back waiting for the right moments to break the lines but yellows stayed compact. A few times Dave looked to be through but James & Bri were on hand to make important tackles. Yellows then got a foot in the game and free flowing football began. 2 lovely first time flicked passes between Gary & Mike saw Jamie through but was unlucky not to finish & denied one of the plays of the season. The first goal came shortly after, with James pushing forward on a break, threads a ball through to myself on the left channel & squared across to Jamie, 1-0.

After 20 or so mins I swapped myself and James around for an initial 10 minutes so I could catch my breath but James decided to turn into prime Bobby Firmino with countless first time layoffs to Gary & Jamie (I think he took Nicks pre match banter to heart). The second came soon after. As the song goes ‘pass the ball to Bobby he will score’ so I fed a ball through to James who took a lovely first touch on the left inside channel and finished calmly. Si Señor. Bri & Pete declared my tactical change as Pep-esk, so you can imagine my surprise when I told my Mrs I’m considering doing my FA coaching badges & her response was for me to get a life.

3-0 came with some delicious play down the left flank, I threaded a pass through Tom’s legs to Gary who majestically flicked it over Harvey, fed the ball to James who squared it back to Gary. Unfortunately Gary couldn’t finish but Jamie pounced on Brens save to all but seal the dub.

Whites switched tactics putting Tom further up & he megz’ed me back instantly. Then just as they started to put the pressure on, Bri channelled his inner Arteta with some elite levels of gamesmanship, three times ‘failing’ to kick the ball back over the fence to give yellows some much needed respite. At this point we thought a rare clean sheet might be on, but Whites managed to pull one back... Johnny hit it from outside the box after a corner, taking a double deflection and in off the post! 3-1, the end result.

Overall a very competitive game, lots of 7/10 performances but my man of the match has to go to James. Solid at the back initially, then what was meant to be a temporary switch in position turned into a 40 minute Firmino-esk masterclass and he was unlucky not to come away with a haul.
